DC 37’s Personal Service Unit is a professionally trained social work staff can help with emotional and family concerns, alcoholism, drug abuse, health prob­­lems and adjustment to retirement. Are you coping with a chronic illlness? Join a two-session workshop in April

Do you have high blood pressure? Asthma? Diabetes? The Personal Service Unit of DC 37’s Health and Security Plan is running a two-session workshop on April 11 and April 18.

This workshop will focus on a productive discussion on accepting and coping with chronic illnesses. You will learn about lifestyle tools to encourage healthy management of your chronic illness.

Expect useful exercises such as mindful breathing, guided visual imagery and progressive muscle relaxation. Space is limited so please respond by contacting Deanna Fusco at 212-815-1250 by March 19.

Mindfulness meditation: help with stress management and reduction

The DC 37 Health and Security Plan’s Personal Services Unit is offering a four-session workshop for members interested in learning more about managing their day-to-day stress and anxiety through mindfulness-based skills and meditation.

Members will come together, in a supporting environment to discuss their experiences, and develop techniques to decrease stress and anxiety, and improve overall mood.

The sessions will run during the month of April, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Support is available for retirees

• Do you need someone to listen to your concerns?

• Do you have health problems?

• Do you need assistance from community agencies?

Retirement is a time of change that can present new challenges. The Outreach Program of the DC 37 Health & Security Plan’s Personal Service Unit provides support and guidance to retirees who have personal and health concerns.

Outreach workers are supportive listeners who are knowledgeable about community resources and refer members to home health care, transportation, senior citizen centers, entitlements and additional services.
