PSU Help for Victims of Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence. As you have seen on the news, as a result of COVID-19 and being advised to stay in our homes, there is a genuine public concern about a rise in domestic violence.

The Personal Service Unit (PSU) of DC37’s Health and Security Plan would like to provide the following information and resources to you if you are victim of domestic violence or know someone who is in this situation.

You do not have to tolerate emotional or physical abuse.

If you are in a situation where your partner becomes agitated, do not engage. Give the person space and walk away in order to keep yourself safe.

Keep a list of trusted persons to contact if you feel unsafe and need to leave right away.

Have an emergency bag ready with essential belongings and important documents. Keep it in an easily accessible place.

Keep important contacts and hotlines numbers saved in your cellphone. Pack a duplicate written copy in your emergency bag. If it is unsafe for you to make a phone call, you can chat with an advocate at www.Safehorizon.org/SafeChat

Know where the closest police precinct is located and if your life is in immediate danger, please call 911.

PSU is here to support you. To speak with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for confidential teletherapy, please call 212-815-1250 or 212-815-1260.

MELS attorneys are available to help DC 37 members obtain emergency orders of protection against family members and intimate partners. Call the MELS Screening Unit at 212-815-1111 or email KGomez@DC37.net.

For help 24/7, you can call The National Domestic Violence Hotline, 800-799-7233 or Safe Horizon 800-621-4673 for support and additional resources.

Safe Horizons can refer you to a Domestic Violence Shelter that is operating at this time.
