MELS Housing Discrimination Webinar Now Online

 By DIANE S. WILLIAMS

Hundreds of DC 37 members joined the MELS Housing Discrimination webinar April 14.

DC 37 housing experts, along with Human Rights Specialist Gui Yang from the NYC Human Rights Commission and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, shared advice on how to fight housing discrimination. A recording of the event is now available online: www.bit.ly/3e1aFGR

“New York is a city of renters,” said Bill Whalen, chief counsel and director of DC 37 Municipal Employees Legal Services. “We are seeing successful turnouts for our virtual webinars. MELS continues to present information our members and retirees can use. The housing discrimination webinar helps members learn their rights as tenants, the various forms of discrimination, and their legal options should they experience housing discrimination.”

Whalen added, “If a DC 37 member believes they are being discriminated against by a landlord, they should call MELS for advice.”
