FREE TAX PREP at NYC DEPT. of CONSUMER and WORKER PROTECTION
By DIANE S. WILLIAMS
Tax credits have changed. Let NYC preparers help. Changes to tax credits mean more money for New Yorkers when you file!
Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child and Dependent Care Credit have all been expanded. Claiming even one could return thousands of dollars to families and individuals in 2022.
The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is excited to coordinate the City’s annual Tax Season Initiative for the 20th season. New Yorkers who earned $72,000 or less in 2021 can use NYC Free Tax Prep to file for free with the help of an IRS certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) volunteer preparer.
NYC Free Tax Prep volunteer preparers can help eligible New Yorkers claim valuable tax credits and keep their whole refund.
- In-Person Tax Prep – sit down with a volunteer preparer.
- Drop-off Service – drop off your tax documents and pick up the completed return later.
- Virtual Tax Prep – it’s In-Person Tax Prep but online!
- Assisted Self-Prep – do your own taxes online using free filing software but phone or email a volunteer for help.
