On April 6, 2022, the U.S. Department of Education announced a further extension of the CARES Act student loan forbearance. Last scheduled to terminate on May 1, 2022, the pause on direct student loan payments, interest accrual and collection activity on direct student loans in default, will remain in place through August 31, 2022.

The pause does not apply to Parent Plus loans, Perkins loans, or FFELP loans. Members with
